Start hands-on practice with Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec
Although family-owned Bucherer has a long tradition as a leading watch retailer, its own high-end watch brand, Carl F. Bucherer-at least as far as we know it today-is relatively young. Carl F. Bucherer was relaunched in 2001 with Patravi as its casual chronograph. Only seven years later, Carl F. Bucherer launched his first self-made movement Calibre CFB A1000, which clearly demonstrated the brand's ambitions in terms of direction and positioning. But diving watch enthusiasts had to be patient, until the summer of 2013, the Patravi series finally learned to dive.
Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec did not try to reinvent the diving watch category or break a certain depth record, but to provide a diving watch that can be used for a long time. We believe that, overall, this is also a very good design evolution of the Patravi series. The diameter of the unique 500-meter waterproof case is slightly larger than 44 mm, but due to its relatively moderate height of 13.45 mm (and sturdy and short lugs) it will not wear as much on the wrist. The 45 mm height (and its short sturdy lugs) will not wear as much on the wrist.
In addition, the rather heavy bracelet (this is the version of the watch we recommend) helps balance the weight. The complicated case design has many straight lines and angles, as well as a mixture of polished and brushed parts, which looks beautiful, but if you really want to dive with it, it may be a bit delicate.
Speaking of which, you most likely don't need the integrated helium release valve, but this is an interesting new visual theme with an additional shield. However, you will definitely need and appreciate the rotating diver's bezel, which features two-tone ceramic inlays and large bezel dots with green luminous treatment, while the dial and hands glow blue in the dark.
The dial is one of ScubaTec's strengths: it has an interesting "fish scale pattern" (even the manta ray engraved on the bottom cover, as shown in the picture below, actually has no scales), bold application markings, and a very distinctive large hand. Most importantly, the dial is very clear.
Another beautiful detail is the screw-in crown with a separate crown guard around it: the blue strip in the middle repeats the color of the bezel inserts (as shown in the picture below), and the entire device is very pleasant to operate.
Inside the watch is equipped with a CFB 1950.1 self-winding movement certified by the COSC Observatory. We speculate that it is either based on ETA 2824 or (probably more likely) based on Sellita SW 200, diameter 26.2 mm, height 4.8 mm, 25 jewels, approximately 38 hours of power reserve, quick set date function and hacker seconds. Regardless of its foundation, it is a sturdy and reliable movement, and may be well treated, and it deserves its own number and COSC certificate.
Nevertheless, considering the positioning and ambition of Carl F. Bucherer and the price of ScubaTec, we are more willing to provide a more "exclusive" choice for this movement. Since 2014, Carl F. Bucherer has provided you with three different dial versions of ScubaTec (the most recent silver and blue dial version combined with rose gold elements), whether on the bracelet (as shown) or in rubber On the strap. The fourth version with red and black bezel inserts was dedicated to the Swiss Football Association during the 2014 World Cup, but with a different dial pattern. They are equipped with matching brand custom rubber straps or stainless steel bracelets.
In short: if you like the look of this watch, we believe you will be surprised at how it looks and feels on your wrist.
